Recreation 101: Introduction to Paddling

Join us for this FREE one hour introductory course to Canoeing and Kayaking, brought to you by Heavner Canoe & Kayak Rental and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.  Classes are located at Highland Recreation Area, Island Lake Recreation Area, and Proud Lake Recreation Area.  After being introduced to basic safety methods, paddle techniques, and maneuvering, you will take the vessels out on the water. The gear and guides will be provided, just bring enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
This is great inspiration for launching your next outdoor adventure!

BONUS SUNDAYS!  We will also meet the LAST Sunday of each month at 6pm for all locations with the exception of Sunday, October 29, where we will just meet at Proud Lake Recreation Area starting at 5pm.

In the case of severe weather, we will cancel the event.  Please contact us at 248-685-2379 two hours prior to your class if you are not able to attend or to inquire of about weather cancellations. All Recreation 101 events are free to participate, however a Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into Michigan’s State Parks, Recreation Areas, Boating Access Sites as well as State Forest Campgrounds and Trails
