Shuttle Trips

Our “Shuttle” trips, named because you will paddle only downstream and ride a shuttle van back to the launch point, are available only on the weekends and subject to availability.  You have several choices, based mostly around time.  The prices listed are for a single kayak or canoe, Tandem Kayaks are +$10.  We offer shuttle service for personal boats as well – $25 from any of our stops.

“Shuttle First” Trips:

Park your vehicle at the Heavner Dock, located at 2775 Garden Rd, Milford, MI.  We’ll shuttle you “first” to the Proud Lake Modern Campground.  From there, you have two options:

  1. $45 – about 1.5 hours – paddle downstream and end at the Heavner Dock.  On your way back you will portage the little dam, and find several places to picnic and swim along the way.
  2. $55 – about 2.5 hours – paddle past the Heavner Dock, and end at Milford’s Central Park.  Note – there are no swimming or picnic areas between our dock and Milford, as it is mostly private land.  We will pick you up in a shuttle and bring you back to your vehicle.

“Shuttle After” Trips:

Park your vehicle at the Heavner Dock, located at 2775 Garden Rd, Milford, MI.  You will launch into the river here, and paddle to the left.  We’ll meet you at your pre-selected location and will shuttle you back to your vehicle. You have several options:

  1. $45 – 1 hour – Milford’s Central Park.  Note – there are no swimming or picnic areas between our dock and Milford, as it is mostly private land.
  2. $50 – 2.5 hours – Kensington’s Group Camp.  There are a couple river-side wading areas along the way.

Once you get past Group Camp, the river opens up into Kent Lake.  Depending on the weather, paddling across the lake can be challenging as the prevailing wind will be directly against you.  The lake is recommended for experienced paddlers only as it can be deep, and the waves from power boats may be overwhelming.
  3. $60 – 4 hours – Kensington’s Shorefishing
  4. $65 – 5 hours – Kensington’s East Boat Launch
  5. $70 – 6 hours – Kent Lake Dam (inside Island Lake State Park)
