Our primary location in Proud Lake state park is a public launch site, subject only to a recreation pass.

At the campground, the lake is available to all as long as you’re camping.

At Kensington Shorefishing, access to the lake/dock is available to all.

Heavner Canoe Rental policy strictly prohibits the use of alcohol while canoeing or kayaking.  All participants sign a waiver that states they understand and agree to this policy.

Check our Location Info page for additional guidance, but under most conditions the Huron River is a smooth, gentle flowing river with no rapids.  We encourage beginners to start at the Proud Lake location.

Briefly: Usually it is left up to the group involved whether to go out or re-schedule. Paddling in gentle rain can be a fun experience and memory, and frankly we don’t care if you get wet.  We do offer Rain-checks for reservations made in advance, but if we are still open we won’t do same day refunds. We do however, reserve the right to restrict trips in case of storms or unsafe water conditions – if we close we will refund any paid reservations.

Officially: In the case of severe weather (i.e. high winds, thunderstorm or tornado watch or warning, sustained periods of heavy rain), we will cancel reservations. You will receive an email and/or phone call and/or text to inform you of the cancellation at least two hours before your booking. You may choose to receive a full refund, transfer your reservation to any future date, or receive a credit in the full amount of your payment for future use on any rental.  These funds never expire.

If your plans change and you are unable to come, please contact us 24 hours in advance for a full refund or reschedule.  Same day cancellations can receive a 50% refund, reschedule for any future date, or receive credit in the full amount of your payment for future use on any rental.  These funds never expire.

Dogs are welcome, but many are skittish and can make the boats easier to tip – you take on the risk.
